G20 - Great Get Togethers

Between the 14th and 16th of November Human Creative delivered a series of vibrant community events called the Great Get Togethers. The events were part of the G20 Cultural Program and celebrated the cultural diversity of Queensland the way we know best – a series of big community get togethers with food, fun and friends.

The events were spread throughout parks in Brisbane’s suburbs and incorporated a variety of foods, communal dining, market stalls, entertainment and children’s activities to produce a vibrant, engaging event for the whole community. Our four flagship events were planned for Chermside, Sandgate, 17 Mile Rocks and Wynnum.

 The overarching goal of the events was to encourage the local communities to connect with each other. We engaged local talent and services throughout Brisbane including musicians, roaming performers, community organisations, social enterprises, food providers, market operators, volunteers and artists.

 The events featured some fantastic interactive installations by Brisbane artists. We also sourced recycled banner material and commissioned local artists to produce custom tablecloth designs for diners at the events. The tablecloths featured messaging and imagery to encourage conversation and interaction between diners. All events also featured bunting illustrating young people’s dreams for the future. The artworks were produced through a series of community workshops in Brisbane schools.

We want to thank our fantastic team who worked on the events, including but not limited to Jim Gleeson from PlanC, event management by independent producer Fiona MacDonald, Wendy and Len McPherson, John Armstrong, Kylie Mitchell, and Annette Gillepsie. Together we delivered an action packed three days of successful events without a hitch! Almost a miracle in event management world!
